Tested Devices

Introduction

The maximum jitter of a device roughly describes how well real-time requirements can be met.. If a device has a maximum jitter of 100us, then it must be expected that an event is handled up to 100us too late.

Tips

Use:
sudo lshw
to show the installed hardware.

Note: The jitter measurements here describe jitter performance, which are possible with a tweaked system. Depending on the installed kernel and running software the jitter may be worse. Better performance is possible, if the system is tweaked better.

These benchmarks were made to test the hardware.

Low Jitter (<30us)

  • Dell Tower OPTIPLEX 9010
    • ~30us max jitter
    • 2 x i7-3770 CPU @ 3.4GHz

Medium Jitter (30us...10us)

  • IB908 from iBase
    • ~100us max jitter
    • 2 x i7-4650U

High Jitter (>10us)

  • Laptop Dell Latitude E5530
    • ~250us max jitter
    • 2 x i7-3540M @ 3.00GHz
  • Laptop Dell Latitude E5540
    • ~230us max jitter
    • 2 x i7-4600U @ 2.10GHz
